  • The maximum deposit is Rs. 1.50 lakh
  • There is a lock-in period of 5 years

How to invest in UCO Bank FD?

For opening an FD account in UCO Bank, one needs to visit any nearest UCO Bank branch and request for application form concerning the fixed deposit. Tax on UCO Bank Fixed Deposit

Investment in UCO Bank Tax Saver Fixed Deposit is entitled to tax saving under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act, 1961. Therefore, one can claim while filing income tax returns. Also, note that the rest of the UCO Bank Fixed Deposits are not entitled to tax savings.

Also, note that the interest income from the UCO Bank Fixed Deposit is taxable according to the slab rates of income tax. Also, the interest income is subject to a TDS of 10% if the income from UCO Bank FD exceeds Rs. 40,000 p.a.

For senior citizens, the limit is Rs. 50,000 p.a. Also, if the investor fails to provide PAN Card details to the bank, the TDS rate will be 20%.

Loan against UCO Bank FD

UCO Bank allows investors to avail loan against their fixed deposits. However, this facility is unavailable for the tax-saving FD scheme. For all other plans, the bank offers a loan quantum up to 90% of the FD value. 

These loans are attractive due to the limited rate of interest charged. For UCO Bank FD investors, the interest rate on these loans ranges from 5.5% to 7.3%.

Premature Closure of UCO Bank Fixed Deposit

UCO Bank permits premature withdrawal of their FDs. A penalty of 1% interest below the contractual interest rate will be charged.

Can I withdraw my FD amount before maturity?

Depositors can withdraw their fixed deposit amount before maturity which is known as premature withdrawal. Although a premature withdrawal facility is provided by the UCO bank, a normal penalty is charged by the bank. The penalty charged by UCO bank is 2.00% less than the applicable rate for which the FD was held by the branch as on the date of deposit or the prevailing rate of interest as on the date of premature closure, whichever is lower.
