Aadhaar Card

Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identifying number provided by the UIDAI to every Indian resident on behalf of the government. It's a biometric document that saves your personal information in a government database. Every resident can apply for an Aadhaar number under the Aadhaar Act of 2016.

To apply for Aadhaar, you must provide the essential aadhar support document at the UIDAI-authorized centres for verification purposes. The documents required for aadhar card are separated into four categories: proof of identity, proof of address, proof of date of birth, and proof of relationship.

Here we will discuss the benefits of aadhar card and eligibility for aadhar enrollment. All the aadhar card documents required for enrollment are also listed on this page.

Benefits of Aadhar Card

Pan Card & Income tax

In September 2018, the Supreme Court affirmed the linkage of Aadhar with the PAN. This Aadhaar-PAN connection is required to submit your tax returns using your PAN card.

Trading Account Opening

The Know Your Customer (KYC) process is an important process for creating a trading account. With the help of an Aadhar card, the process can be easily completed and validated online.

Identity Card

Aadhaar is a biometric identity verification system. It is widely used as a picture identification card in India. Hence, it can be used as identity proof for official or travel purposes.

Passport in 10 days

You will no longer need to bring various papers to apply for a passport. UIDAI has made your passport application process easier by allowing you to utilize your Aadhar card. Renewals are also simple with the assistance of an Aadhaar or e-Aadhaar.

Driving license

According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Aadhaar can be used as evidence of address and age. You can also link your Aadhar card number to your driving license to prevent duplicate license holders.

Proof of Residence

Aadhar is recognized as a genuine government document that may be used as evidence of residency to access different government and private services.

Government Subsidy

  • To ensure transparency in the use of government subsidies, all government assistance programs are connected to the beneficiary’s ‘Aadhaar’ number.
  • Various programs, like old-age pensions, the Public Distribution System, are being connected with ‘Aadhaar’ to avoid duplicacy.

Bank Accounts

Aadhaar and Pan Card have now become the fundamental requirements for opening a bank account; but, according to a recent Supreme Court ruling, linking your Aadhaar with the bank account is not required. However, if you link your Aadhar card to your bank account, you would have access to your linked accounts across the nation.

Gas Connections

The 12-digit unique identity number given by the UIDAI, dubbed ‘Aadhaar,’ is useful for receiving LPG subsidy funds directly into your bank account.

The Direct Benefit Transfer, commonly known as the PAHAL Scheme, is a program that assists you in receiving the LPG Subsidy.

Mutual Funds

SEBI has made it necessary for all accounts to undergo KYC before they can be established. The Aadhar card number facilitates e-KYC for the application procedure.

Monthly pension

To avoid pension system fraud, retirees should connect their Aadhar card number with their pension account to collect a pension.

Provident funds

The presence of several EPF member ids makes consolidation a tough process. You can, however, simply withdraw or transfer your provident fund with the use of a UAN. In the absence of a UAN, you can activate it using your Aadhar card. Though the Aadhaar connection is not required to withdraw your PF, it is a good practice to connect your UAN to your Aadhaar.

Jan Dhan Yojana

Aadhar is also the sole document required to establish a bank account under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY). You may, however, open this PMJDY account with the use of additional papers.
