The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will conduct the annual hour-long Muhurat Trading session on November 1, 2024. Muhurat is considered to be an auspicious time according to Hindu beliefs and customs. According to beliefs, investments made during the Muhurat Trading session have a chance of delivering good results. Hence, investors make fresh investments during the hour-long trading window for the upcoming Hindu New Year. Additionally, traders also consider the Muhurat Trading session to be an auspicious time to open new settlement accounts or diversify their portfolios.

The Muhurat Trading session has been a tradition on the stock exchanges for several decades. The first Muhurat Trading session was conducted by the BSE in 1957. The NSE embraced the tradition in 1992. On Diwali Day, stock brokers and businesses also perform customary worship of their books of accounts known as Chopda Pujan.
Investors and traders consider the special trading session to be an auspicious occasion to make fresh investments in stocks. In the past, equities have delivered positive returns during the session. In the past 17 Muhurat trading sessions, the BSE Sensex has ended in the green on 13 occasions.
However, it is worth noting that the Muhurat Trading session can see erratic market fluctuations. Further, volumes during the session are considerably lower, and few significant price movements are seen in that one hour.
Along with the BSE and NSE, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will also conduct a Muhurat Trading session on November 1, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
In addition to making investments, traders can also take on intraday trades during the hour-long trading window. Traders can deploy various strategies to capitalise on the movements during the special trading session.
